Trauma Therapy

HELPING YOU HEAL FROM YOUR PAST SO YOU CAN FINALLY FEEL AT PEACE AND PRESENT IN YOUR LIFE!

You’ve been carrying the weight of your past for years.

You’ve convinced yourself, “It wasn’t that bad,” or “Other people have it worse,” but deep down, you know your experiences have left a mark. Maybe you feel like you should have moved on by now—that bringing it up in trauma therapy is “being dramatic” or “an exaggeration” of what’s happened in the past.

You might even hide these feelings from those closest to you because the idea of opening up to someone and getting “pity” in return just makes you feel even worse. You don’t want to burden your loved ones with your pain. Instead, you stay busy. You overwork, overachieve, and try to keep everything running smoothly—at work, at home, and in every other corner of your life. But inside? You’re overwhelmed, disconnected, and you feel stretched so thin that it feels like at any moment’s notice you might just snap.

You’re Not Alone, It’s Not All in Your Head, and You’re Not Overreacting!

Trauma doesn’t have to come from a catastrophic, life-threatening event to impact your life.

Growing up feeling unseen, unheard, or like your feelings or needs didn’t matter can leave deep, invisible wounds that shape how you navigate the world and relationships as an adult. But it’s not just about long-term patterns—experiences like a sudden loss, a serious accident, a medical emergency, or another single, overwhelming event can also leave a lasting imprint on your mind and body.

For some, single-episode trauma feels like it should be easier to “get over,” but the truth is, these moments can create ripples that affect your self-esteem, relationships, and emotional well-being. Trauma—whether an isolated experience or a series of events—works more like carbon monoxide: quiet, undetected, but deeply harmful over time.

That’s why trauma therapy is so essential! It helps you uncover and heal what’s been holding you back, whether it’s rooted in years of invisible struggles or a single moment that turned your world upside down.

You’ve done what you needed to do to survive and succeed, but now it’s time to thrive!

You deserve more than to just “get by” in your life.

You deserve peace, authentic connection, and a life that feels genuinely fulfilling!

My Approach to Trauma Therapy:

In our work together, we’ll take a personalized, holistic approach to healing. Trauma therapy with me isn’t about just about reliving your symptoms over and over—it’s about building practical resources, understanding the roots of your struggles, and empowering you to reclaim your life for lasting results!

I’m certified and trained in some of the most up-to-date, effective, body-based approaches to trauma healing, including:

  • Somatic Therapy: This approach to trauma treatment focuses on the mind-body connection, helping you gently reconnect with your body to release stress and unprocessed trauma stored within. It’s a way to heal not just with reframing your thoughts but by addressing how your body holds onto past experiences.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS): IFS helps us explore the different “parts” of yourself—like the inner critic, the caregiver, or the protector—and how they all interact. It’s an effective and gentle method to better understanding and harmonizing the parts of you that may feel at odds.

  • Polyvagal Theory: We’ll explore how your nervous system plays a role in how you feel, react, and connect with others. By understanding and working with your body’s natural survival responses (fight, flight, freeze), you’ll learn how to move from survival mode to a sense of safety and connection.

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): EMDR is a powerful and research-backed method that uses bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements) to help your brain process and release stuck memories, reducing their emotional charge and allowing you to move forward.

These approaches work together to provide a safe and empowering path to healing that is rooted in both science and compassion. Whatever your unique needs and experiences, I’ll meet you where you are.

  • .Identify.

We’ll explore what brought you to trauma therapy and set clear goals for your healing journey. Together, we’ll identify the negative beliefs and patterns rooted in your past experiences that are driving your current struggles.

    • You feel “stuck” in the past. Memories or feelings from difficult experiences keep resurfacing, making it hard to move forward.

    • You’re constantly on edge. You may feel anxious, easily startled, or find it hard to relax, even in safe situations.

    • You avoid certain places, people, or situations. This avoidance can limit your life and create a sense of isolation.

    • You struggle to regulate your emotions. You might feel overwhelmed by anger, sadness, anxiety or numbness.

    • You notice physical symptoms. Chronic stress, fatigue, headaches, or a constant sense of tension may be linked to unresolved trauma.

    • Your relationships are impacted. You may have difficulty trusting others, setting boundaries, or feeling close to people.

    • Regulate your emotions. You’ll learn tools to manage overwhelming feelings, reduce emotional reactivity, and build a greater sense of calm.

    • Heal your nervous system. Trauma often disrupts your body’s stress response. Therapy helps restore balance so you can feel grounded and safe in your own skin.

    • Shift unhelpful patterns. Trauma can lead to behaviors like people-pleasing, perfectionism, or avoidance. Therapy helps you identify and change these patterns so you can live more freely.

    • Improve relationships. By addressing trust issues, attachment wounds, and boundaries, you can develop healthier and more fulfilling connections with others.

    • Rebuild your sense of self. Trauma therapy supports you in reclaiming your identity, self-worth, and confidence, helping you reconnect with your authentic self.

Trauma therapy doesn’t just focus on surviving—it’s about thriving. With the right support, you can break free from the cycles of the past, create a life that feels safe and meaningful, and step into the version of yourself you were always meant to be.

  • Absolutely! Online trauma therapy is a highly effective way to address and heal from trauma. In fact, studies have shown that virtual therapy is just as impactful as in-person sessions, with the added benefit of making therapy more accessible and flexible for those with busy schedules, mobility challenges, or limited local options.

When working with trauma, the most important factors are the expertise of the therapist and the strength of the therapeutic relationship—and both can thrive in an online setting.

In fact, many clients feel more comfortable opening up from the privacy and comfort of their own space, which can be an essential part of the healing process.

My approach to online trauma therapy combines evidence-based methods, a deep understanding of the nervous system, and a safe, compassionate environment to help you regulate, process, and move forward with confidence.

You don’t have to face your healing journey alone, and online therapy makes it easier than ever to get started. If you’re ready to explore whether online trauma therapy is right for you, let’s connect!

  • Yes, I offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy as one of the many tools in my toolbox to support trauma healing.

EMDR is a highly effective, evidence-based approach for processing and resolving traumatic experiences from the “bottom up” for more info on that you can read my blog here.

EMDR is effective treatment for trauma as it helps your brain reprocess distressing memories, reducing their emotional intensity and allowing you to move forward without feeling stuck in the past.

While EMDR is a powerful therapy, I tailor each trauma therapy client’s treatment plan to your unique experience, preference and needs.

Trauma affects everyone differently, and I incorporate EMDR alongside other approaches, such as somatic work, mindfulness, and nervous system regulation, to ensure a holistic and personalized healing experience.

If you’re curious about whether EMDR is right for you or want to learn more about how it fits into the bigger picture of trauma recovery, I’d love to explore this with you in a consultation. You don’t have to navigate your healing journey alone—support is here!

  • Not exactly. Trauma and Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) are related, but they often are used to describe different things.

Trauma refers to the emotional and psychological response to distressing or overwhelming events. These events can be one-time occurrences (like a car accident) or ongoing experiences (like chronic abuse). Trauma can affect your nervous system, emotional well-being, physical health and sense of safety.

CPTSD, on the other hand, is a mental health condition that can develop as a result of repeated or prolonged trauma, particularly in situations where escape or safety isn’t possible—such as childhood abuse, neglect, or domestic violence. CPTSD includes the symptoms of traditional PTSD (like flashbacks, avoidance, and hypervigilance) but also involves:

    • Difficulty regulating emotions (e.g., intense anger, sadness, or numbness)

    • Negative self-view (e.g., feelings of shame or worthlessness)

    • Challenges in relationships (e.g., trust issues or difficulties with intimacy).

In summary, trauma is the experience or cause, while CPTSD is a potential outcome of long-term, unresolved trauma. Not everyone who experiences trauma will develop CPTSD, but the effects of trauma are still valid and worth addressing.

If you’re unsure how trauma may be impacting you, I’m here to help!
